2023 Asian Weiqi Championship Online

*2023 Asian Weiqi Championship Online*

29th March ~ 2nd April, 2023, the Asian Weiqi Championship was an exciting event held online. Brunei Darussalam Go Association sent their male team, which comprised of five players and one substitute. Unfortunately, the female team was not sent due to the inconvenience of setting up live cameras via Voov meeting for female players.

The Brunei team consisted of talented players including Kaoxiang (3-dan), Haidar (2-dan), Neng Cong (1-kyu), Zhen Yang (4-kyu), Feng Yang (4-kyu), and Victor (2 kyu). The team performed exceptionally well, winning against the Pakistan team 4-1 in the second round and against Kazakhstan team 3-2 in the fourth round. However, they faced tough competition and lost to the Macao, Thailand, and Hong Kong teams.

Despite the challenges, the Brunei team ranked 11th out of 14 teams, just one rank below Kazakhstan. The ruling was decided by the number of wins each round got, and Brunei could not play with a full team in each round due to the bad timing, with players being busy or having tuition.

Overall, the team had a fantastic experience, and this event was like a simulation for the upcoming Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, in September 2023. The top four teams will advance to the final round to decide the top four placements, and Brunei Darussalam Go Association looks forward to participating in future tournaments and championships.
