Visual Report of Brunei Igo Society

*Annual Report of Brunei Igo Society ’07 ~ ’08

———————————————-
Today, Xinwen had happened to upload the second video he made which entitled, “Annual Report of Brunei Igo Society ’07 ~ ’08” in Youtube.

The motive is to gain acknowledgement from the public and recognition from the people the existence of Igo Society of Brunei.

Despite knowing that using the name “Brunei” is somehow not allowed in the country, but the society has clearly stated themselves as an community of Igo enthusiasts, and promoting a healthy game of Igo.

———————————————-

*Introduction of Brunei Igo Society

———————————————-

This was the first video uploaded in Youtube last year, 2007 entitled “Introduction of Brunei Igo Society“. Many things had happened and change (i.e. closing of the website http://bruneigo.tk – due to the law enforcement that it is not correct to do so -)

Hereby, Xinwen had decided to make Visual Report every year to show his appreciation, joy, pride about his society to the world!

For Joseki 1 review click here.

Often, one could witness this joseki of move “3” played by Beginners (8k or weaker). Then a beginner will then quickly answer the move “4” with “A”, then “B” exchange. leaving no aji to break through the territory of Black – which is so wrong.

Thus, White “A” is the fundamental mistake to this joseki!

*Correct Joseki*

This variation would be the simplest amongst the others. Black would later might go for “A” or “B” – depends.

It is definitely possible for Black “4” to move at “5” which is inferior. Strongly encourage beginners to try it out and experiment for a different result!

Handy and Xinwen

*Best friend in Baduk*

Handy and Xinwen
Handy and Xinwen

———————————————-

That fateful day in September of 2007, Xinwen had destined to meet “him” in the 3rd Nanning SEA International Tournament. Happened so that Handy was a very young president of Indonesia Go Association! Xinwen got to tackle this fellow, Handy.

Nevertheless, Handy had became a very good friend of Xinwen. They shared laughters, words of widom despite meeting each other only in International Baduk Event – Xinwen and Handy were truthfully a very good brother to each other, and good god sons of Mrs. Vanthanee (not-to-foget).

“…I strongly believe that Go creates a destiny that we would eventually meet again…”
By Handy in the 2nd Korea Prime Minister Cup in closing ceremonial speech

“…I sincerely trusted that every go player would keep the spirit within them…thus, please not forget about this spirit and may us make it an everlasting burn!…”
– By Handy in the 3rd Korea Prime Minister Cup in closing ceremonial speech

Even promised to Emily that Xinwen have to invite Handy to Brunei by the end of this year 2008 (December). Moreover, Haidar and Xinwen had also made a prophecy that 100 of girls would join and learn Go if Handy visits Brunei.

———————————————-

Ever since 2005, Xinwen has decided to organize tournament every year. Once again, the 5th Igo Tournament organized by Xinwen, proposing to be held on the 11th of December and to be ended on the 16th of December.

This year, the tournament has been set different in terms of the system (Komi of 8, Chinese Rule) and participants have to play in a challenger league before the final (16th of December, 2008). Generally, the Champion pair from 2007 (Javian and Queenie) will have to play only on the 16th of December in a best of 3 games to decide the title holder of 2008!

Moreover, there is also possible chance for honorary guest from Asian Go Federation visiting Brunei! Hence, this is a bigger step in achievement of the Igo Society of Brunei. The tournament will be using ING rules as tournament system to get familiar with international rule!

Jannik Lundgaard RASMUSSEN (White) vs Xinwen (Black)

———————————————-

” This is the third time been to Korea, and the forth time joining Go Tournament in my go life…”

Everyone had fought the toughest they can to get a better result in the tournament. Xinwen met Jannik Lundgaard RASMUSSEN from Denmark 4dan in the morning with his own uniqueness of fuseki, started off with 2 6-4 starting. Xinwen had a chance in the middle game but due to the byo-yomi pressuring, made another mistake in Life and Death.

Maybe Black should omit the “A” first and hit at somewhere around “1” first? Not really sure about this. Need to do research.

Francis ROADS (Black) vs Xinwen (White)
Francis ROADS (Black) vs Xinwen (White)

In the afternoon, Xinwen fought against Francis ROADS, UK player and would thought he could win this time but ended up losing so much of the game. The blame was the White “1” and “3” exchange to what Xinwen thought, maybe “3” at “a” would be better.

Then to the utmost sadness of Xinwen, he managed could calm himself down to play for the best in the last round against Paolo MONTRASIO (Italy) and managed to force him resign by killing one big group.

Hence, the final result was 3 wins 5 losses with the position of 46th out of 68 players.

Unfortunately, Mario didn’t come for the the 3rd KPMC and instead, Totoro aka. Juan Manuel VILLATA CERDAS of Costa Rica came for the 3rd KPMC.

It had been a year Xinwen played the game of Bowling; and this time again with about the same people, they held the Bowling match!

Lee-san had decided to divide themselves (12 people) into groups and the loser team had to treat the winner team, such as drinks and taxi fares. The match was intense yet fun, knowing that Jayden Sia and Sharen were total beginner in bowling! Sharen even managed to score better than Jayden Sia in the first match. However Jayden Sia managed to learn from mistakes getting to score 80 in the final match!

It was really a great experience to have Xinwen bringing along friends from Brunei whoever deserve this dream that he visioned of, dream of.

Jayden Sia had finally ended his baduk works, he seemed to like it. Then, Sharen had attended the Asian Go Federation Meeting with an open discussion regarding the Go Affairs all around the Asia.

Mrs.Vanthanee had presented the History of Thailand Go Association in the General Meeting, one would finally understood how hard the Thai-Go had went through for many years.

———————————————-

*Disappointment*

Xinwen had suceeded in winning the first game in the morning against Aliaksandr CHAKUR Belarus by forcing resignation. Unfortunately, Xinwen met Tan Jia Cheng in the afternoon – well kind of shido-go that Xinwen had learned much.

Sadly in the 5th round, Xinwen played carelessly against Janez JANZA Slovenia pressuring by the Byo Yomi counting; Xinwen made a living group of himself to dead.

“I’m very upset not because i lost, its because the game did not reach the ending!”

———————————————-
*Achievement*

Thus, the result is 2 WIN 3 LOSE; by aiming for a total 4-win, Xinwen became bit pressured with only 3 rounds to decide the final result the next day.

Can he achieve 4-win which would break his last year’s record!? or he failed ending up quitting go!?

Thomas HSIANG 7-dan (White) vs Sin Voon CHIN 2-dan (Black)

The first round was competing Thomas Hsiang Ama 7-dan from USA, nevertheless Xinwen had lost the game BUT by time; Xinwen was hoping that he could at least finished the game…

The game started out Xinwen playing the ogeima kind of Shimari, which he had tried sucessfully in the past records with the chosen fuseki. “Xinwen’s mood at Thickness”. Mistake such as “57” gave white a rather big corner, move like “103” was played kind of wrongly in covering up the cut, and “49” was wrong to extend, should had just captured – sort of minor mistakes yet contributing to losing.

Noting that any amateur with “7-dan” registered could not be as fake as any amateur of 5-dan and weaker.

*Second Round*

Xinwen (White) vs Venezuela (Black)
Xinwen (White) vs Eric Omar PACHECO CADIZ Venezuela (Black)

The 2nd round was Xinwen playing Eric Omar PACHECO CADIZ from Venezuela; with only consideration of having him weaker than USA’s Xinwen played the game calmly.

The Fuseki was presented strangely to an extend that Xinwen never had learned the Kobayashi Fuseki’s Variation, regardless of that – play as simple as possible. Then The Joseki at move “15” was delivered unexpectedly as well as Xinwen had yet to learn this Variation.

Having thought that territory might lost to Venz but Xinwen had captured around 20 stones which highly tally up the score, and the Yose Tesuji at move “228” was the winning move!

Orientation
Orientation

———————————————-

Orientation had started before Xinwen and his team arrived. As usual, Kim Seong-June was the one to deliver the speech. The orientation includes: the rules of the tournament, the facilities provided in Hotel Jijihyang, and introduction of the area the participants staying at now.

The area Xinwen’s staying right now is actually known as “Paju Book City” of Paju city in the Goyang-si, Gyeonggi-do, Korea.

Dedicated staff
Dedicated staff

The truth was that Xinwen and the gangs roam around the city yesterday and thought this town is creepy because there weren’t much or weren’t any human activities all around, the architectural building all named “name Publishing Co.” making up the name: “Ghost town“.

Through clear orientation and introduction, everyone had come to know that this town is actually a “BOOK CITY“, for publishing, encourage reading, biggest library in Korea or maybe on earth! – Culture and Art Hub, Great Era of Book, Dream of all authors and publishers.

All these are the dedicated and diligent stuff of the event, they’re actually volunteered to help up KABA. The staffs will be responsible in guiding the representative, assisting in interpretation of Korea/Japanese/Chinese.

Xinwen, Jayden Sia and Sharen had finally set their journey off from Malaysia to Korea on the 6th of November 11.45pm. The flight took roughly 6 hours and 10 minutes. Destination is Goyang City of Korea, and would be staying in Hotel Jijihyang.

Ngoc Cuong Nguyen (Kong)

Something that Xinwen has never mentioned, sincerely feel apologitic. 1 year ago, it was Kong who gave the direction and guidances to Xinwen to make an approach to hit the International Go Federation by announcing the existency of Go in Brunei through via e-mail to Yuki Shigeno (General Secretary of IGF).

Which was that time, Igo Society (Brunei) had begun to recognized as a legal activities to IGF and AGF despite it is an unofficial neither it had register.

Great thanks to Ngoc Cuong Nguyen!

Zidah
Zidah (Female Leader@MD Go Club 2008)

Zidah, currently the female leader of Maktab Duli Go Society 2008 -2009, of 第四代 (4th-gen) of Igo Society (Brunei).

Zidah who has also been promoted to Brunei Ranking 10-kyu last few months (September) through the Promotional Written Test. Thus, this has made her the first to achieve Brunei Ranking 10-kyu amongst all the 第四代 from Maktab Duli.

Zidah had also participated in the 2nd CHMS Alumni Association Go Tournament (Team-Go) in June, 2008.

The above pattern happens to appear in Zidah’s game few days ago. Without whole board consideration and judgment, something needs to be pointed out today in the form of “Theoretically form”.

———————————————-

Pattern in a theoritical form
Pattern in a theoretical form

Theoretical Thinking

Preferably Black should play at “1” forcing White to hane at “2” then Black exchange at “3”. Now looking at the situation, “A” is considered as a developing group (no-eye).

Thus, Black 3 is consider a good move, it helps to destroy the potential developing of the group “A”.

In case of any worse scenario, Black can connects at “c” or live at “a”.

Hence, this may concludes that White does not have any good move to play viewing from whole board consideration.
