While being bored, Xinwen googled his name “陈欣汶” and found this link to be appeared on the first list of google.

The truth is also that, Guangxi Weiqi Tournament which was held in September 2007 was Xinwen first Go Tournament, also first time being invited sponsored to Tournament.

Summary of the Quote in Translation:

“I want to let the world acknowledge the existence of the game of Go in Brunei”  a ambitious statement made by a 20-years old Chin Sin Voon.

According to Xinwen, there was no go association in Brunei and not people know this game. Back then, Xinwen himself knew this game from the famous Japanese Manga “Hikaru no Go” and got attracted to it. Without anyone teaching him, he started to learn from Internet Go Server and got obssessed to it then became “Go-geek”. Xinwen then set up a go club in high school, the go society eventually expanded as he graduated. With joy, Xinwen said the society expanded with at least 20 “serious” members.

20 members might probably not considered to be the players, and in the eyes of the people – it may be not so bit deal. However, this passion and achievement is considered precious to Xinwen. “I had tried to organize Go Tournament manually by myself, participants were limited – done poorly; compared to the second times, it was really gotten better with my juniors supporting” To allow everyone to enjoy this game of Weiqi, 20 years-old Xinwen had contributed too much: solely setting up Go activities, contact the International Go Federation alone, Xinwen himself traveled alone for competition… Lecturers from university were not really happy or agree with Xinwen’s decision, friends around him may not really understand his ardent, lastely the Go Club activities had faced serious financial crisis and others cruel reality factors.

Basically, promoting this unfamiliar game of go in Brunei, had landed on Xinwen’s hand as burden and responsibility to carry. Xinwen had admitted it was not easy, but neither lonely, because he knew there were other who love this game. He strongly believes this dream may comes true.

Xinwen was back to Brunei on the 19th of May and immediately the next day, Xinwen paid a visit to the PTE Katok Go Club. Surprisingly the club is well managed – putting up notices, recruiting new members.

The club is operating every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 12 00 to 17 00. Xinwen had also printed 40 Questions Elementary Life and Death for the members. Pretty much that they are still lacking in Elementary knowledge.

Dated back to this day, Xinwen had actually requested an opportunity and privilege for him to offer a free lecture to the new-comers on this day – 16th of May, 2009.

Despite having less participants:- Seng Chea, Shino and Li Heng attended the lecture, Xinwen had done the best to present the lecture. The lecture actually reviewed from Xinwen’s 1st 19×19 game which can be refer here.

[Black – opponent, White – Xinwen]

Surprisingly, Xinwen noticed that there were many things to look back in his first 19×19 game. such as the diagram 1 shown that if White could just “a” instead of “5” then of course White has no problem escaping or live.

The same goes to the diagram 2, where White should have observe and be sharp to spot the easy move at “b” then white will get to kill the 2 black stones and connected back to the territory.

Theoretically, the main point is to translate that one should learn to calm down and fight to escape whenever one may meets a near life and death situation. There always possibly to have hidden Tesuji in near- life and death situation.

… Thus, Xinwen will be going to leave Malaysia and back Brunei for few months…

Finally, Jia Cheng, 6-dan Singapore Weiqi Player, aka: supertjc, had his free time to review Xinwen’s game against Philip. The first part of the review was against the joseki.

The fundamental joseki 1 pattern was played out during the game except that Xinwen omitting the atari-move at “9”. Which was strongly commented by Jia Chenge that the move “9” is a definite and absolute. White would get attacked by black otherwise.

More explanation is commented in the reviewed game.

Another part of the review at which Xinwen learned to remember was the pattern shown above. Both of them were about the same sequence yet one may discovers a rather astonishing truth in “Suggested Sequence” was that White could play at “a” as big yose move.

However as for more commentary and variation, please download the reviewed game. Overall, Jia Cheng commented Xinwen’s play style was too conservative and not using thickness to attack sufficiently. Thus, Xinwen knowing problem of himself, eventually felt relieved…

The Igo Society of Brunei has once again graciously contented to announce their mid-term activities and to be expected to commence on the 1st of June to the 28th of June. Everyone is invited to participate and support in the activities.

Ever since the establishment of the Igo Society in 2006, it has been intensely showing improvement and achievement despite not setting up a Go Association yet. Remarkably:-

The vision of the Society is to encourage unity and integration amongst racial group.

The objective is to promote the ancient game of Go.

The goal is to have Brunei acknowledging the existence of Go and to set up Go Association.
