5th March 2022, The 5th Chinese New Year Go Event hosted by Brunei Darussalam Go Association. Despite being belated, the event saw participation from 16 enthusiastic players, all eager to celebrate the auspicious occasion. Each participant was awarded a red packet as a token of appreciation for their attendance.

The event was held in a team format, with each team comprising of 4 players. Two players from each team played on a 13×13 board, while the other two played on a 19×19 board. The tournament was competitive and challenging but also allowed for a fun and social atmosphere among the players.

Overall, the event was a great success, bringing together a community of Go enthusiasts to celebrate the Chinese New Year and enjoy the game they love. The Brunei Darussalam Go Association looks forward to hosting more events in the future to continue promoting and developing the game of Go in the local community.

Visit Kuching Go Community 2023

Brunei Darussalam Go Association’s official, CHIN Sin Voon, paid a visit to the Kuching Go Community in 2020 before the pandemic began.

The Kuching Go Community was initiated by Mr. Michael Ling and Mr. Johnathan Goh back in 2014, and since then, classes were conducted weekly. However, after the passing of teacher Johnathan Goh in 2021, the classes had come to a halt. (ref:https://bruneigo.com/2017/02/06/visit-to-kuching-yi-quan-weiqi-community/).

During Sin Voon’s visit, he discussed and encouraged the community to move forward and continue promoting the game. Sin Voon also shared some of his own experiences and insights about different teaching resources.

Brunei Team got 3rd Place in the 32nd International Amateur Pair Go Championship

9th ~ 12th December 2022, the 32nd International Amateur Pair Go Championship was held at the Metropolitan Edmont Hotel in Tokyo, Japan. Haidar (2-dan) and Hui Xin (7-kyu) made their first debut in this Championship representing Brunei.

32nd International Amateur Pair Go Championship was postponed since 2020 and had finally successfully hosted this time. The event comes with two sub-events: World Student Championship and the World Pair Go Official Handicap Tournament.

Brunei Team participated in the World Pair Go Official Handicap Tournament and achieved 3rd Place in Group D. The prizes given to the team were a Certificate of third place achievement & Team cash prize of JPY15,000.

End of Year Pairgo Event 2022

4th December 2022, Brunei Darussalam Go Association held their End of Year Pairgo Event 2022. There were 12 participants comprised of 6 juniors & 6 seniors from the class as they form a team of 2 (total 6 teams) to compete in a 3-rounds event.

Results:

1) Fyang x Huiru (Champion Team) – Fyang promoted to 5th kyu & Huiru promoted to 15th kyu
2) Ncong x Huixin (Champion Team) – Ncong promoted to 1st kyu & Huixin promoted to 7th kyu
3) JinQuan x Stelanye (2nd Place Team) – Stelanye promoted to 15th kyu
4) Zhengbo x Selestyne (3rd Place Team) – Selestyne promoted to 15th kyu
5) Victor x Jarhowe (4th Place Team) – Jarhowe promoted to 17th kyu
6) Zyang x Jarsen (5th Place Team) – Jarsen promoted to 15th kyu

All participants received rank promotion certificate, red envelope, medal and some receives trophy.

11th November 2022, Brunei held the selection for the 42nd World Amateur Go Championship which will be held online on Fox Go Server (Tencent Weiqi) organized by China Weiqi Association in this rotation from the 22nd November to the 2nd of December, 2022.

17th Korea Prime Minister Cup International Baduk Championship 2022 – Gwangju, S. Korea

Borneo Bulletin 12th October, 2022

24th ~ 30th October, 2022, The 17th Korea Prime Minister International Baduk Championship was held at Bitgoeul Gymnasium (Stadium) in Gwangju. LEE JQuan 1-dan made his debut in this World Championship accompanied by AGF Official, CHIN Sin Voon.

17th KPMC is the first International Invitational championship ever since the global pandemic hits in 2020. There were 52 participants which exclude China, Macao and Hong Kong probably due to their strict covid restriction of outbound requirement. The Tournament Slogan “One Us One Earth”.

The previous conferences in 2022 & 2021 were affected by the pandemic. Hence, this AGF meeting reported the two years’ progress & activities as below:

  3. The 2021 World Youth Mind Sport Fair (online)
  4. the 10th Ilyo Weekly News Cup World Baduk Championship 2022 (online)

This AGF also addressed the newly joined member from Iran Go Association where they would propose to host the AGF Championship in 2023. Secondly, The Iran Go Association is trying to establish an AGF office in Central Asia.
